Angular Cheilitis, also termed Angular Chelitis, Angular Cheilosis, Stomatitis, Stomitis, Cheilitis, Chelitis, and Perleche by the medical profession is commonly referred to by the medically uneducated, which is most folks, as just plain ole cracked mouth corners.
When you say, or people can see that you have mouth corner cracks, it doesn't sound or seem like it could be a very serious health problem, though some people do often mistake the unsightly mouth corner sores for the skin sores associated with Aids. Most of the time, however, people just assume that you're not taking enough baths, that you're unclean somehow.
These wrong assumptions tend to some make people jeer, humiliate and laugh at those afflicted with cracks in the corners of the mouth, so they are embarrassed and eventually withdraw from all social activities. This social stigma combined with the almost constant Angular Cheilitis pain can make the sufferer wish that he had never been born.
